A Happy Accident

Last week in the studio, I had created a background for a piece of work.  Needless to say it didn’t all turn out as I had hoped. So I started adding layers of tissue paper and gesso to the ground fabric of felt and painted bondaweb, then things went even more pear-shaped and in my frustration I covered the whole lot with silicon paper and took a hot iron to it.

Who-hoo - I loved the texture that I got, trouble is, I cannot remember exactly how I got it, and even if I could, I don’t expect I could replicate such a “Happy Accident”

So after a few hours hand stitching this is the result.

Although I am now posting on this blog, I am still in the process of updating my links etc - so please bare with me on this.

Just A note

I am in the process of updating my blogs - and have moved both my blogger textile blog and my wordpress textile blog here.

I am just updating links - so if you have arrived here because you suddenly had links  appearing (if for example you use google link checker) and are wondering where they came from - you probably left a comment on one of my old blogs, and google (or whoever) will now think it has found a new link

Thanks for you patience

I will start posting on this blog in the week of the 16th March - but will leave a note on my other blogs to say so

Leaves or no Leaves?

I have planned three pieces of work to plop into those frames (I will get the goddesses framed).  This was the starting point for the first piece.

skeletonleaves

Nice I was happy with it.  Then over the past few evenings I have taken it up to the house and done an hour or so of hand stitching on it.

The piece now has a very different feel because of the strong “journey line” through the centre and I don’t want the leaves to cover up my stitching.

So - there will be no leaves.  I have tried a variety of other “inclusions” on top of the stitching - but none of them speak to me.  So I am contemplating just leaving it as it is and letting the stitching speak for itself.

This is quite strange - as I don’t usually do things in quite such an abstract way ….do I?

just-stitching

Please excuse the colour of the mount board - it is in fact cream - although the rest of the colours are not to bad - I think I forgot to set the “white point” on the camera.

Close up details.

Um -  the focus is not the best it could be, the chiffon and organza layers appear slightly glarey under the flash  of the camera

Well …

Well - I feel that I have spent enough time on this piece - not one of my better ones, now to decide:-

1) Plop in ready made frame

2) Have it framed.

Decisions, decisions!

Grrrr

painted-figure

Dobby may have thought that my sleeping figure looked like a “Duck billed Platypus” I just thought she didn’t show up too well - so have spent a while messing around.

Covered her with dark fabric - then ripped it off

Machine stitched in a darker colour - then un-picked it

(you get the picture).

Anyway this afternoon she got a coat of dye - so she does show up against the background but possibly looks more like a large boulder than a sleeping figure - (sigh) Tomorrow I will give her some eyes …. maybe (big sigh)
